Feinstein Teacher, Chess

|
|
Gjon Feinstein is a U.S.
National Chess Master and offers formal chess instruction in several public and
private schools in Santa Cruz County. He has organized county-wide and
inter-school chess tournaments in which he encourages his students to
participate. Gjon has been playing chess since 1972 and teaching since 1995. He
uses a building block approach to the teaching of chess, teaching with patience
and consistency. Gjon wants to share with his young students the idea that the
more you know about chess, the more you realize how much there is to learn.
Chess mirrors life in this respect.
We are thrilled that Gjon will be joining our faculty this year, bringing the
wonderful game of chess to our students. We are the first school in Santa Cruz
County to offer chess during school hours. Chess is a valuable tool for
developing critical thinking skills and the ability to visualize. The game
demands forethought, logic, math skills, and fosters creative thinking.
